Phenolic resin also known as bakelite, also known as bakelite powder. Originally colorless or yellowish brown transparent material, the market sales often add colorants and appear red, yellow, black, green, brown, blue and other colors, particles, powder. It is resistant to weak acid and alkali, decomposes in strong acid and corrodes in strong alkali. Insoluble in water, soluble in acetone, alcohol and other organic solvents. Phenol and formaldehyde are polycondensated. It includes: linear phenolic resin, thermosetting phenolic resin and oil soluble phenolic resin. Mainly used in the production of pressure plastic powder, laminated plastic; manufacturing varnish or insulation, corrosion-resistant coatings; manufacturing daily necessities, decorations; manufacturing sound insulation, heat insulation materials, etc. Phenolic resin is a kind of yellow, transparent and amorphous block material. It is reddish because of free molecules. The specific gravity is 1.25 ~ 1.30. It is soluble in alcohol but insoluble in water. It is stable in water, weak acid and weak alkali solution. The resin is prepared by polycondensation of phenol and formaldehyde under catalyst conditions, neutralization and water washing. The catalysts can be divided into thermosetting and thermoplastic. Phenolic resin has good acid resistance, mechanical properties and heat resistance. It is widely used in anti-corrosion engineering, adhesives, flame retardant materials, grinding wheel manufacturing and other industries. Phenol formaldehyde resin is the first industrial synthetic resin.
